As we mention election and calling we must acknowledge the many different rivers of thought on the subjects. Election and Calling like Predestination, Sovereignty of God, and Eternal Security are all subjects of great controversy through out the years.

Is this faith life based on foreknowledge or divine call, to the individual or to a group, dependant upon a person’s reception or rejection or all inclusive? Can you walk away from true faith or are you eternally secured period!

The arguments go on endlessly and have been discussed by theologians like John Calvin, James Arminius and in the twentieth century Karl Barth.

Things I believe… based on scripture

We were dead in sin and incapable of choosing God on our own. God called us and gave us opportunity to respond to Him. This election of God to reach out to you and I must be met with a response and we must understand how thankful we should be at the opportunity to be involved with God in a life of faith. We should pursue the calling of God to our lives with great energy, not out of fear of being lost or dropped, rather out of extreme gratitude of being called. What a privilege to be able to know God and be known by God.

For the purpose of this lesson… I am not speaking of calling and election from the standpoint of salvation or loosing salvation, rather I want to focus us on the opportunity to live a life of faith and the effect it can have on you and I now. I believe it is a clear reality God calls people to particular positions and callings and if fortunate to recognize this election and calling to a life of faith, we should take this fact with extreme conscientiousness.
