NOTES
The purpose of this lesson
is to get us to the point that we understand in reality everyone who presents
themselves to have our best interest at heart, probably doesn’t. The
sales person needs to make a living, the TV advertisers need to more money, the
model probably doesn’t even use the product, and our family may have
their own agendas. We must understand the only way to true life is through
relationship with
Christ and we must keep
ourselves as free as possible for Him. He is the only true path to Life.
I initially began
considering these lessons a while back when I observed how humanity flocks to
things consider by others as popular… entertaining… fulfilling…
hip… modern… current etc… Historical Culture, family,
religion and modern culture all play a role in determining how we define
successful or acceptable living. What we think people expect or what we feel we
must do to be accepted are very pressing influences on our lives. Vacation
destinations… prearranged tours and package deals… take the worry
out, but also show how we assign the definition of what life is to others.
The Christian community is
no different as we move from new theology and thought to the next new thing…
books, songs, artist, bible studies etc… are all examples of how
susceptible to fads we are.
All of this is an example
of how we allow others… not God to dictate what we consider to bring
life.
If you could wipe the
slate clean… clear all the expectations of culture, family, religion, and
society… who would you be or what type of life would you live.
