David Payne was born and raised in what was then known as Gospel Tabernacle in Porterdale, GA. At the age of 18, he felt the call of God on his life to do more for the Lord. Just seven years later in 1987, he accepted the pastorate of Gospel Tabernacle which became The Church At Covington and has served as the Senior Pastor ever since. From humble beginnings of about 150 members, today there are over 1,200 active members and attendees who call The Church At Covington home.
To know David is to love him. His transparent heart for people is evident the first time you meet him. His heart's desire is to break down the walls that divide people which causes David to lead in a way that encourages others to get to know those who are different from themselves. He is respected by his peers in ministry, his community, those in government and business as a leader whose life displays what he believes. His efforts give clear definition of the church’s primary purpose and vision and is reflected in his personal ministry statement.....making a difference in our world through Jesus Christ.
David is married to Valorie Strawn Payne. He has two children, Stephen and Arlissa, a son-in-law, Mike, and two grandchildren, Houston and Isabella.
